Included in our Calaguas tour itinerary was a whole day stay in Bagasbas, also in Daet, Camarines Norte. After the island hopping and an overnight camping in Calaguas we also got to try surfing. Bagasbas is quite famous because it has been coined as the best and safest spot to learn surfing. And of course, it is also one of the very few surfing spots nearest Metro Manila- just 9 or so hours away.
Guys and gals who are expert surfers highly recommend this place for beginners because the waves are two to five feet tall most of the time. This is perfect for beginners compared to the waves in La Union or Siargao. The black sand is very fine which also makes this place more favorable for newbies like me. The sand is so soft it lessens the risk of injuring yourself.
Long boards can be rented for 200 pesos and teachers/local guides fee another 200 pesos. Before heading to the waves, the guides will teach you the basics of surfing: paddling, how to stand, proper stance, etc. Guides will also be with you in the waters because they will tell you when it is time to stand up and balance yourself on the board.
